The history of the Treichlhof
The Treichl family has been indulging their guests on the Hausberg mountain since 1974. Shortly after the Hartkaiserbahn in Ellmau opened, Hans and Marianne Treichl leased the location on the mountain – initially this was only for a year. But little by little, more and more guests started to come the former farm. And no wonder: While skiers enjoyed the sun on the terrace with a delicious snack board or sweet Kaiserschmarrn in the daytime, the tobogganers filled the cosy lounge in the evening. It soon became clear to that the glorious view was the Treichlhof’s biggest asset.
That’s why Hans bought the neighbouring hillside property despite the fact he didn’t have any money for it at the time. This meant he could guarantee that the “Kirchbichl Lanz” couldn’t be obstructed and that Treichlhof guests would still be able still enjoy the sunshine when they stop for a break.
From 1995 to 2016, son Herbert and his wife Gabriele Treichl were in charge. They expanded the terrace and upgraded the kitchen. As was the case when their parents ran things, the crispy schnitzels and ribs available for pre-order were the bestsellers during these golden years.
On 25 June 2020, the demolition work began in to be able to open the modern mountain restaurant up above valley floor of Ellmau in time for the start of the new winter season before Christmas.
And the ambience has also been updated – the classic dishes will of course keep their place on the menu and will be as fresh and tasty as usual!
Treichlhof tradition and cuisine
Tyrolean tradition dictates that we welcome our guests with warmth and win them over as friends. The whole family puts their heart and soul into their work, and our chef keeps a watchful eye over the team in the kitchen. We serve homestyle cooking and traditional fare from the best local produce. Many of our regular guests can’t resist our ribs, Wiener schnitzel and our already legendary Kaiserschmarren.
The new building has allowed us to successfully preserve the original charm of our traditional mountain restaurant. However, the revamp means you can enjoy all modern comforts. The curved exterior of the Treichlhof blends in harmoniously with the mountain. Since 1974, we have been serving our guests with passion in this unique location that enjoys a stunning panoramic view of the fantastic mountain world of the Wilder Kaiser and the Kitzbühel Alps. For us, the Treichlhof embodies part of the Tyrolean way of life: The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasantly down-to-earth without any gratuitous extravagance. Hikers, tobogganers and skiers are just as welcome as families, companies and clubs. We also have an indoor children’s playroom so that our younger guests don’t get bored when their parents are chatting for a while.
The warm classic dishes from the diverse Tyrolean cuisine have just as firm a place on our menu as hearty snack platters. The first highlight of the day is our unmissable mountain breakfast. The perfect combination for a good time on our sun terrace is coffee & cake. For us, traditional hospitality and modern cuisine aren’t two separate things. Freshly cooked food always tastes best!
