Anyone who has visited Ellmau in summer will appreciate why the village has often been the setting for films and TV series. The popular drama series “Bergdoktor” is also set in the pretty village at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser mountains. Fans can even set off on in search of traces of the show. Hop on an unforgettable traditional tractor ride to the “Gruberhof” farm or take a detour to the Hinterschnabel farm, where the scenes in the doctor’s office are filmed.

The team at Treichlhof have a very special relationship with “Bergdoktor”: as a matter of fact, the success story of the series began right here on our farm The accident scene in the first episode of season one was filmed right here!

Most notably, Ellmau is the starting point for a wide variety of outdoor activities in summer. The region offers both casual hikers and ambitious mountaineers pure alpine bliss. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, you can’t miss out on the spectacular two-rope bridge of the Klamml via ferrata between the Gruttenhütte and Gaudeamushütte mountain huts.

Hiking on top trails

Enjoy fantastic views of the rugged rock formations of the Kaiser mountains or the lovely grassy mountains of the Kitzbühel Alps on hikes and mountain trails through fragrant forests, over flowering alpine meadows, through mountain pine groves and across sparse scree slopes. The multi-award-winning network of walking trails in the Wilder Kaiser region offers excellent variety and leads you to the most beautiful spots in this unique mountain landscape.

Running in the mountains

Do you love to run but find road running too boring? Then the Wilder Kaiser region is just the place for you. Soak in the scenery while you run leisurely along forest tracks or go for something a bit more intensive with trail running. You can even reach the peaks of the Kaiser mountain via technically demanding trails and feel as though you’re racing through the sky. The region makes the most of the perfect conditions every year for two renowned trail running events: the “Tour de Tirol” in autumn and the “Kaiserkrone Trail” at the start of the season.

Mountain bikes & e-bikes

Enjoy relaxing e-bike routes over gentle hills or challenging mountain bike trails through unspoiled terrain – the 350-kilometre trail network in the Wilder Kaiser region provides maximum variety for all ages and levels. The unique nature of the Wilder Kaiser is always part of the package too. Explore the region on your own or benefit from the local knowledge of an experienced guide. Hop on your own bike saddle or take advantage of the comfortable rental options available in the region.

Adventure activities

Did you know that the German-Austrian border has its very own Grand Canyon? Go on an exhilarating rafting adventure on the Tiroler Ache and see it for yourself! The stunning wild gorge and its stretches of sweeping water, rapids and tight bends will get your adrenaline pumping. Canyoning will have your pulse going just as fast: From June to September, you can experience the Wilder Kaiser from its lesser-known side by abseiling down eroded rock faces, diving into crystal-clear pools and going down a slide or two. Tandem paragliding reveals the irresistible beauty of the mountain landscape from a completely different perspective.

Adventure holidays in Ellmau

If the kids are with you, they can enjoy a more comfortable ride up the mountain. The 10-seater Hartkaiserbahn cable cars lift you up an impressive1,555 metres in just a few minutes – directly to “Ellmi's Zauberwelt”. There are exciting puzzles to solve in the magical forest. The large children’s play park provides an area for parents to soak up the mountain sun while the kids explore the swings, trampoline, maze or the spacious playground. In the botanical garden around it’s all about flowers and the fascinating power of herbs and medicinal plants.

In addition, Ellmi’s Zauberwelt is the starting point of the fantastic no. 11 panorama hiking trail, which takes you over several alpine pastures over a walking time of around four hours.

Improve your handicap while enjoying the best views on the two golf courses in Ellmau. The 27-hole course “Wilder Kaiser” and the 9-hole short course “Kaisergolf” offer a real sporting challenge and pleasant tranquillity.
